Decisions. Decisions.

Obstacles and distractions are often used interchangeably. An obstacle is something that stands in the way of progress. It can be tangible or intangible. A distraction is something that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else. Both are obstructions in the path of progress.

Think of an obstacle as a boulder in the middle of the road and you need to get to the other side. You can climb over it, go around it, move it, or dig through it. One way or another you have to get on the other side if you want to advance to your destination. Once you are on the other side of the boulder, you can proceed on that same road. Yes, you may run into road kill, fallen tree branches, and/or bad weather, however you can overcome these obstacles because you are still on the path of progress.

Same scenario with the boulder in the road. Let’s say you’ve tried to overcome the obstacle but this one is a doozy. You get tired and stop trying. Now you decide to look for another road. You find a path up the hill and decide to set up camp. You get hungry so you venture off to a storefront in the middle of nowhere. You eat, drink, and are satisfied. You look around and realize you have totally strayed away from the road. Distractions take you off of your path of progress.

In the case with my son, he is definitely an interruption in my plan. Ignoring him and proceeding to my destination would keep me on the road. I would also be in good shape if I respond to him, see what he needs, and go to the gym a little later. In these two examples he would an obstacle. However, the interactions with my son are time-consuming. I may start with helping him, feeding him, and then end up snuggling with him while watching one of his favorite shows. This means no gym and a distraction for me indeed.

Good News! Even if you are distracted, you can find your way back on the right track. Make the decision to get focused and overcome the obstacle by attaining resources. Take action. Standing still is NOT an option!

POWER SWITCH

https://www.sandraroach.com/blog/power-switch

https://www.sandraroach.com/blog/power-switch#comments

Uncategorized

Power Switch Have you ever waked up in the morning, look outside and see the beautiful sun shining. You quickly think to yourself, “This is going to be a Marvelous Monday!” Well, that’s how I feel every Monday whether it’s raining, snowing, or sun shining. Yes, you’re probably thinking that I’m making this up but I am not. I have consciously made a decision to take each day as a new opportunity to do things better than the day before. We all have that power. Power is define as the ability to do work. Which means we can do work at any given time. I believe that every person has a power switch and I choose to be turned on!

It is difficult to see the contents of a room that is not illuminated. Even if a little bit of light is present, it may not be enough to light up the whole room. Once the lights are on, there is clarity. It may take a few seconds for your eyes to adjust but soon after you are able to make out specific details of that space.

This applies to our personal existence as well. Life is made up of different areas and sometimes it can feel like a balancing act. Some portions may be thriving and others portions can be disappointing. Whenever I focus and set goals for a specific part of my life, my satisfaction level usually increases. The section of my life that has become familiar, stagnant, and unsatisfying demands my attention.

Are you turned OFF?
You look in the mirror and don’t recognize the person staring back. Life has truly moved; the goals and desires seem so distant. You’ve settled with the job that “pays the bills” and you don’t have time to yourself because you’re too busy running errands for the family. Even your health has taken the back burner. Living life day to day without any goals can be compared to a dimly lit room. You can choose to walk around in the darkness because you are familiar and comfortable with your life. You know exactly where everything is and that puts you at ease. But is that enough? Will it take another five or ten years to realize that you deserve more? Don’t get stuck. Your dreams need your energy to live.

Turn ON now.
As long as you are breathing, there are goals need completing! To make your dreams come true, you have to put in the work that’s due. So, prioritize your values, gauge your satisfaction level, create an action plan and muster up the energy to change your situation. The same way you turn the power on to an electronic device to see what it's capabilities are, is the same way you can determine your own capabilities. It is a Marvelous Monday and it can also be a Terrific Tuesday! You have your power switch. Choose to be turned ON! Now!
